■ Design
A plain-toe loafer face, stripped of ornament.
Built to hold the heel securely, for stability as you walk.
A finely grained upper and a saddle that returns light like a mirror.
Two different lustres layered together, giving a quiet depth.
■ Saddle
Japanese cordovan set across the instep as the saddle.
A rare leather taken in the smallest quantity from the hindquarters of a horse, its fibres densely packed.
That density makes it strong and resistant to losing shape, with a lustre unlike any other leather.
An aniline finish, uncovered by pigment, turns the leather's own clarity straight into shine.
The more you polish it the deeper it glows, maturing toward a colour with red in it.
■ Upper
Himeji steer leather, carefully tanned with plant-based tannins.
A fine grain that gives a soft lustre.
A certified eco-leather, produced with reduced harmful emissions.
The upper is unlined where it touches the foot, so the softness of the leather is felt directly.
■ Insole
Kyushu-grown igusa, prized for absorbing moisture and reducing odour.
A removable tatami insole made from upcycled tatami offcuts.
A crisp feel underfoot holds down moisture and odour, comfortable even worn barefoot.
The insole can also be replaced with separately available tatami insoles.
Like re-facing a tatami floor, it can be renewed with fresh igusa and worn for years.
■ Outsole
Finished with a Vibram tank sole offering excellent durability and grip.
It adds just the right thickness and stability to the trim loafer silhouette.
Light on the foot, and reassuring over long distances.

Tatami, Himeji leather, Japanese cordovan and Japanese artisanship.
Shaped with meticulous attention to every detail.
