Tatami Green Tea — organic green tea lightly blended with igusa rush grass from Yatsushiro, Kumamoto.
The igusa used for tatami is normally finished with a mud-dyeing process.
Here it is used exactly as it is after harvest,
drawing out the clear natural fragrance and gentle flavor of the plant.
Rather than a powder, the igusa is chip-cut.
Shredding it to 1.5–2cm before infusion produces
a clean, transparent taste with little bitterness.
Igusa has been part of daily life in Japan for more than 1,500 years.
Valued as a medicinal herb in the Edo period, it carries a cultural history of its own —
reinterpreted here as the memory of tatami in a single cup.
Served hot, the fragrance opens gently; cold-brewed, it is fresh and rounded.
Taste, aroma and color layer together, leaving a quiet finish.
Supplied as tea bags, it brews easily at home or at the office.
The washi-inspired packaging also makes it well suited as a gift.
