The award was established in 2015 with the aim of discovering excellent Japanese products and services that are full of "omotenashi" (hospitality) and spreading it to the world.
The winner was the "Tatami Loafer Slippers."

The Omotenashi Selection is run by more than 20 private companies, and through on-site inspections by foreign experts living in Japan, it evaluates unique techniques born from consideration for the people who will use them, and creative activities that preserve traditions while continually improving them for modern times.
■Comments from foreign judges
・I think the big selling points of this product are the various effects and functionality of tatami mats, and the fact that the delicate, soft eco-leather is unlined and gently wraps around your feet. I especially like that they are antibacterial. They are very stylish and comfortable shoes to wear. The tatami insoles are also beautiful and seem to be of high quality. (USA)
・I think the insoles are simple in design and comfortable. I also think it's great that they're made from upcycled tatami mats, and they're very comfortable to wear as insoles. I think the absorbency of tatami mats makes them ideal for loafers. (Romania)
